Where did the idea for The Sparkling Hippie come from?
Haley Hoover: The Sparkling Hippie came to many many years ago when I was daydreaming about my future art gallery. I wanted a name to reflect my art style. Seeing how my work was, (and still is) largely based upon wild colors, glitter and the feeling of freedom that lingers from the music of the 60s and 70’s, The Sparkling Hippie felt like a good fit. It soon became the name of my blog and has been the title of my company ever since.
What does your typical day look like and how do you make it productive?
Haley Hoover: I begin my days by waking up early and clearing my own internal canvas. What i mean by that is that I take time to journal out my thoughts, clear my head and make space for the life that will soon happen. Afterwards I dress for success, sit down with my mug of tea and begin diving into coaching female entrepreneurs on how to live their best life through their soul-aligned business. My day ends with a walk in nature. This rejuvenates my spirit and allows me to ground after a day of deep, thought-provoking conversation. The key to my productivity is keeping my energy high. This happens naturally when I balance in lots of self care and downtime in between calls and work.
How do you bring ideas to life?
Haley Hoover: I have been known to be the “Idea Queen” in my industries. I’m a dreamer, yes; but I’m unique in that I am also a doer. I love to dive into an idea as quickly as it appears. The impulsive action delays the response of my criticism. If I wait and think about it, the idea may never survive. The best path forward is through immediate action.
What’s one trend that excites you?
Haley Hoover: I’m seeing people use more movement in their days. With the majority of folks now working from home, I think we are realizing how important it is to move our bodies in between activities, rather than the old model of sitting at a desk for 8 hours without so much as 200 steps throughout the entire day. Movement produces ideas, momentum and energy. These are the things that make a business exciting, productive and full of life.
What is one habit of yours that makes you more productive as an entrepreneur?
Haley Hoover: I am a water drinker. Before my eyes are fully open I drink a glass of water to get me moving. After my morning tea I drink a glass of water. Constantly on calls and throughout the entirety of my day I am drinking water. Water is the essence of life. It keeps us alive, keeps our skin young and hydrates the body and soul. I believe drinking lots of water keeps me fresh and therefore more productive.
What advice would you give your younger self?
Haley Hoover: “Go for it, Sis. Forget everyone else.” When we’re young we’re so impressionable. We look everywhere for the opinions of experts, the approval of supervisors, parents, professors. If I were to go back in time I’d look myself square in the eye and I’d say, “Haley, you have absolutely everything you need to succeed right now. It’ll happen even quicker if you trust your gut more than you trust the insight of others.”
Tell us something that’s true that almost nobody agrees with you on.
Haley Hoover: The fun stuff — creativity, dancing, painting, playing, walking, laughing — is the stuff that sparks to life great ideas. It’s the stuff that allows us to soar higher, because we aren’t grasping to the outcome, forcing results, wearing ourselves out trying to achieve. Through this stuff, we naturally fly higher than we thought possible.
As an entrepreneur, what is the one thing you do over and over and recommend everyone else do?
Haley Hoover: Let go and have fun. Many of my clients begin entrepreneurship as a fun endeavor to feel more fulfilled and escape their 9-5 death sentence. A few months in on the journey though, they feel the same way in their own business as they did in their 9-5. It’s then my job to give them permission, if you will, to relax, have fun, and take the lightest and easiest next step. That’s how we stay alive, thriving and on the right path for ourselves.
What is one strategy that has helped you grow your business?
Haley Hoover: Trust. When I force things to happen, they do not. However, when I let go, step back and allow things to flow naturally; well, they do.
What is one failure you had as an entrepreneur, and how did you overcome it?
Haley Hoover: I’ve had many failures as an entrepreneur. I bet I’ve launched three dozen products that didn’t make a single sale. I’ve hosting dozens of masterclasses and live trainings that no one showed up to. I’ve made loads of offers that nobody nibbled on. Overcoming it, is simply a matter of moving forward toward the next exciting idea. Keep the excitement, always.
What is one business idea that you’re willing to give away to our readers?
Haley Hoover: I’d love to see someone create a business of training corporate employees in creativity, fun and trust. I think this would heighten their sense of purpose and enthusiasm which would lead to more innovation.
What is the best $100 you recently spent? What and why?
Haley Hoover: I recently spent $100 on books. You cannot go wrong reading books. It expands your mind, which allows ideas to flow and innovations to be born.
What is one piece of software or a web service that helps you be productive?
Haley Hoover: Loom is a fabulous tool for creating quick videos. I use this to train my intern and team members. It’s fabulously easy.
What is the one book that you recommend our community should read and why?
Haley Hoover: The 4-Hour Work Week by Tim Ferris. We work too damn hard. This book makes clear suggestions and logic as to why we should all be having more fun in our life and our businesses.
What is your favorite quote?
Haley Hoover: “Life is either a daring adventure or nothing at all.” –Hellen Keller
- Life should be fun, creative and joyful. Your business will echo that.
- Make time for breaks throughout your day. Move your body, get outside, dance. Keep your energy moving so the ideas and creativity will too.
- By allowing more fun, flow and creativity into your life, your business will succeed more easily and more dramatically.
