Weaver: Jaguars aren’t going anywhere

Wayne Weaver has come out today and strongly denied media rumors that the Jaguars were for sale and might wind up moving to Los Angeles. With the team starting a big push to sell season tickets, there was little else that could be said at this point. Even if some discussions were taking place, to acknowledge them would be disasterous for the current health of the franchise.

Reached by phone on Thursday, Galatioto declined comment.

Weaver said: “Whatever happens in the future, I can assure you of one thing: The Jaguars will be the Jacksonville Jaguars. This team is not going to California. This team is the Jacksonville Jaguars. The clearest example I can offer which demonstrates my commitment to this team and this city is our offseason activity this year.

“We extended lucrative contracts to our head coach, our quarterback and several veteran players and we spent freely in free agency. That’s not the moves made if a team is going to be sold. It’s frustrating.”

With any luck, these comments from Weaver will be the final word on the matter. Hopefully fans will take the promises to heart and continue to support the team as they make another run for the playoffs this Fall.
