Democratic state house candidate Regina Young apparently thought she had successfully qualified for a spot on the ballot last week. But that wasn’t the case.
According to posters on the Jax Out Loud forum, Young had filed her paperwork and was told she had successfully completed the qualification process. But in reality she lacked a single form and was informed on Friday that she would not be on the November ballot.
Stay tuned as this one may be going to court.

Ms. Young was rumoured to be having a press conference at the Supervisor of Elections Office today. Has anyone heard anything about it?
June 25th, 2008 at 12:10 am
What’s happening with this?
June 25th, 2008 at 1:56 am
Democratic Party lawyers are asking for their fees before they file. You’d think they could afford to help Regina Young out.
Unfortnately for all involved our Neil Hutchinson is out of town. I hope he returns before the deadline.
June 25th, 2008 at 8:51 am
The Democratic lawyers are doing this because Terrie Brady cut a deal with Mike Hightower to keep a Democrat out of the race and then have Democrats support Hightower’s employee/lobbyest/candidate. Brady is urging the state Democratic Party to stay out of this.
This just stinks. When will we Democrats stop making deals that never work out.
June 25th, 2008 at 10:30 am
Sam does not speak the truth. Democratic lawyers are working on her case- and have NOT asked for fees before they file. Quit spreading lies.
The Division of Elections did not qualify her because the Notary who witnessed her signature on one form made a mistake- she wrote Florida instead of Duval in the blank for County- a super hyper-technicality- that has nothing to do on whether the forms were completed by Ms. Young and her attestment that they were true.
June 25th, 2008 at 10:35 am
So any truth to Donkey Girl’s assertion about Terrie Brady cutting a deal with Hightower?
June 25th, 2008 at 7:52 pm
Sam is speaking the truth.
Once upon a time Collins was Brady’s errand boy. They had a falling out and Clollins was removed from the Dem Party chairmanship. Hence, Linda Whipple happened then the travesty of Travis occurred which leads us to the present problems.
Terrie Bradys husband runs in the same circles as Hightower so I am not surprised. wink wink.
June 25th, 2008 at 7:54 pm
Dem Party should have picked up the fees for the filing.
June 25th, 2008 at 8:40 pm
This will be some kind of fun when it finally explodes. Brady, Hightower and Cuba are all going to have to hide until after election day.
June 26th, 2008 at 10:47 am
Sam does not speak the truth- again, Democratic lawyers are working on her case- and have NOT asked for fees before they file. They are doing it pro-bono. I suggest you speak to Regina Young yourself Cassandra. The Democratic Lawyers handling the case are not in cohoots with or protecting Terie Brady- in fact, quite the opposite.

Press Release
June 26, 2008
Dr. Regina Young’s Disqualification for House District 17 Election
The day when the State of Florida can summarily dismiss black candidates seeking public office is over.
Today a coalition of limousine liberals including leaders of the local teachers union and constipated conservatives including the Speaker of the State House have deprived Regina Young the chance to represent her peers in Florida. This is a continuation of the Florida politics of 2000 when thousands of black voters were denied the franchise. This time, the Rubio brothers rather than the Bush brothers provide the dirty tricks.
The world is watching Florida on this election cycle. We welcome the assistance that the Duval Democratic Party is providing Dr. Young. Additionally, we have welcomed Gov. Crist’s efforts to restore Florida’s tarnished image by expediting the process for the restoration of voting rights for former felons. However, the disqualification of Dr. Young marginalizes Governors Crist’s hard work. We would urge him to join us in correcting this travesty.
We also call upon Blue/Cross-Blue/Shield to speak out due their close and continuing identification with persons involved in efforts to deny blacks access to the ballot. In 2000 they were closely associated with Mr. Hightower. Today they are closely associated with Mr. Rubio. We would urge them to join us in correcting this travesty.
The Jacksonville chapter of SCLC has asked our national President Charles Steel to help focus the attention of the nation on this travesty. He has called Jacksonville the last pre-civil rights Birmingham standing.

ALERT - FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Dr. Regina Young Seeks Right To Run For State House Seat 17 From The Florida Supreme Court.
Details on a lawsuit by Jacksonville’s Dr. Regina Young over the decision by the Florida Division of Elections to disqualify her as a candidate for Florida House District 17, will be provided at a press conference today, Friday, June 27, at 3:30 p.m. in fron of the Duval County Supervisor of Elections Office, 105 E. Monroe Street.
On hand at the press conference to support Dr. Young in her lawsuit will be officers of the Duval County Democratic Executive Committee, including Travis Bridges, Party Chair.
The state elections office last week notified Dr. Young , who filed as a candidate March 28, that she was disqualified to run because of a notary technicality on the paperwork she filed with the state last week. Dr. Young, in a lawsuit filed with the Florida Supreme Court, says the state reviewed her paperwork and approved it, but after she returned to Jacksonville was called and claimed she was ineligible.
Dr. Young is the only Democrat who filed to run for State House District 17 seat, which is also sought by three Republicans, one of them being Mario Rubio of Jacksonville, who is the brother of Florida House Speaker Marco Rubio of Miami.
Duval Democrats are encouraged to attend this important press conference in support of Dr. Regina Young’s quest for honesty, integrity, and fair play by the Florida Division of Elections.

Appears the lunatic chair of the party Mr. Travis is running scared. Here’s a letter he wrote to the SCLC threatening its President
Dr. Gray,
You are hurting Dr. Young’s case going to the Florida Supreme Court by sending out hearsay and speculative messages. You are also opening yourself up to slander lawsuits by naming labor organizations as well as naming people and international corporations.
You should concentrate on Dr. Young’s suit being filed with the Florida Supreme Court. ANYTHING else you might suspect should be kept to yourself until such time that you have proof of such dealings.
Please be advised that the Duval County Democratic Party will not be a party to hearsay, nor take part in any way to promote such actions.
Travis Bridges, Chair
Duval County Democratic
Executive Committee

The following is Dr. Gray’s very gracious reply to the idiot Travis.
Dear Brother Bridges:
You should concentrate about creating a “Proactive Political Party” instead of an organization that is perceived as a “Social Club for Geriatrics”.
I have asked Pat to coordinate a meeting between you and I over six months ago. I guess you are too busy– doing what– because results are few.
I am a man of action. Somebody must lead the train instead of waiting to find out which way it is going.
Thanks

Go Dr. Gray Go go go go go
The truth shall set ya free.
Toss out Travis.
June 27th, 2008 at 6:44 pm
Travis is afraid of this whole matter becoming public. He knows that if Brady is exposed as colluding with Hightower to help Rubio then she will be run out of her spot as State Committeewoman. As her hand picked party chair, he would be next for allowing such a stupid, stupid thing to happen.
We need to clean house and get some leadership that is not afraid to fight for what we Democrats believe in, instead of settling for scraps that fall off the table.
June 27th, 2008 at 6:52 pm
There is a rumor floating around the DTU offices that Brady gave a passionette speach on Mr. Rubio’s behalf at the Central Labor Council meeting last month.
If true, then she needs to immediatley step down as State Committeewoman for the DEC.
June 27th, 2008 at 7:49 pm
Teacher’s Pet, don’t believe it to be a rumor but a fact.
Brady should be exposed her many crooked dealings. The community and us teachers have paid a terrible price under her leadership. Corrine and her are two peas in a pod.
June 27th, 2008 at 7:52 pm
At today’s press conference Travis was not at all critical of his Republican buddies, but rather commpassionate as he feels they have been wrongly accused.
The more I read Mr. Gray’s letter the more I see the true colors of the DEC under Travis control or rather under Brady’s control.
I hear she and Collins made up. Puke
June 28th, 2008 at 8:51 pm
Replace Travis.
June 30th, 2008 at 4:07 pm
Rubio is now holding a press conference supporting Young’s lawsuit as a way to distance himself from the allegations that his brother is involved in this thing.
I wonder if any reporter will have the sense to ask him about his deal with Brady?
June 30th, 2008 at 8:03 pm
Did it hit the airwaves? He’s no good and no way does he even have a chance in this primary or anyother. What he needs to do is stop smoking like a fien and take a good long bath to erase the odor.,
June 30th, 2008 at 8:04 pm
Who will Audrey Gibson, Tony Nelson and Corrine bring home the bacon Brown endorse now? What’s the story with Brady?
July 1st, 2008 at 7:52 am
Looks like no one cares what Mr. Rubio has to say. He’ll get used to that.

The power brokers (big money) created this financial mess were in. If this community believes they will be immune to what is going on nationally, or even internationally, they’re on drugs. The dollar is headed even lower, gold is headed higher, as is all commodities, we have record deficeits, both government and consumers, growth is slowing here in florida, forclosures are at all time highs, there are abuses in all levels of government, the family unit is and has been manipulated and destroyed by these same power brokers. People better wake up and take charge once again. It’s obvious politics is involved with Dr Young. Look at her credentials. This woman is top notch, and the power brokers know it. I hope she fights this to the end, and hope people support her in the injustices she is going through right now, as with so many people. This is one reason I am running for StateRep 18, because I am sick and tired of being abused by these same people Ms Young is dealing with. Much luck to Ms Young from Walshie.
