Now that the Duval County School Board has chosen to terminate the contract of controversial Superintendent Joseph Wise.  The main question, aside from who will replace him, is how rich of a compensation package he will be leaving with.Â
If it’s determined that Wise was let go “for cause” then he’s only able to receive another 90 days pay. That’s roughly $70,000 — and yes, that’s right, he gets paid about $800 a day! If Wise was determined to have been terminated “without cause” then he’s going to get the $600,000 or so still owed to him for the next couple of years of his contract.
According to numbers from the Times-Union’s salary database, Wise was the fourth highest paid government employee in Jacksonville with an annual paycheck of $276,000. He was beaten out only by John Delaney at UNF and the Presidents of FCCJ and JEA.Â
Mayor Peyton earns about $173,000.
