Term limits are forcing a large number of state representatives out of office next year. The contests to fill these empty seats are already starting to take shape, and they include some big names…

Two-time mayoral candidate Mike Weinstein is now officially running for State House District 19 to replace Represenative Dick Kravitz.
John Capra wants to replace Don Davis in District 18. Capra is the man who appeared ready to take on Stephen Joost for City Council Group 3 At-Large in next month’s elections, but decided not to qualify and instead run for the legislature. Councilman Lad Daniels is seeking to fill the District 16 seat that’s being vacated by Represenative Mark Mahon. Councilwoman Pat Lockett Felder is running in District 14. That’s the seat currently held by Terry Fields.  Felder’s campaign treasurer? Reggie Fullwood. Also of interest, Nassau School Board member Janet Adkins has jumped into the District 12 race to replace retiring Representative Aaron Bean.

Mike Weinstein will make a great representitive and is certainly well prepared for the job. Hopefully though all of these races will be contested. The local city council races where/are extremely disappointing as far as actual discussion of issues goes. I am afraid more people are becoming disinterrested altogether just because all you are hear about these candidates is why their names should be recognized not what they stand for.
